Indoor Futsal is back!

Futsal is back for winter 2019-20! Indoors at Applemore School, every Monday night 5-6pm for boys and girls in year R and 1 at school.

Futsal is loads of fun, and a great way to try football for the first time. Just bring a water bottle and shin pads, no cost but an optional £2 donation if you wish. A great way to stay active in the winter and learn the most exciting parts of the beautiful game!

The end of a footballing era! Our U18 lightning ha

The end of a footballing era! Our U18 lightning have played their last ever game this month. It was fitting that the ref was Roy Walker – who was involved in this team 11 seasons ago as a parent and has officiated many of their games throughout the years.
Also a big thank you to Paul Le P and H&D U18 Storm who saw lightning off the pitch in great style. It was a fabulous gesture and was much appreciated.
Lightning were born at under 9 as the third team of that season’s age group. It has of course evolved through the years but has had a core that has been entirely constant for the last 5 seasons.
The age group has several players that have played their entire youth careers with HDYFC and there will be more on those journeys later.
The Lightning team has closely followed the club ethic that #WeAllCanPlay – with many of the players maybe not initially finding a place without this approach, but who have excelled over time as a result of it.
Special recognition needs to go to the manager, David Headon who has always steered the team with fair play, hard work, teamwork and sportsmanship regardless of if they win, lose or draw. And assistant Steve Browne, a great ambassador and hard working servant for the club, who shares all the same values and has helped to install those principles in the boys.
Lightning end their last game at the top of their league table! The first (and of course last!) time this has happened. The title is yet to be decided with other teams able to overtake them, but to be in this place is a fantastic accolade to all involved.
A massive thank you to all that have been involved in this team – players, coaches and parents and supporters. This decent bunch of young men go into the wide world with invaluable life skills and lessons learnt from the good days and the bad ones, and friendships that should last a lifetime. And that is more important than winning the league or any game of football.
